I've been giving a lot of thought to adding a beveled arm rest to my next build. Any one know how to do it? Or maybe where to find a how to guide? Thank you for any advise you can offer. ![]() |

Funny... I have been looking into the same thing. Have you read the two main articles about this over on the MIMF. I think Tony K wrote one of them. That is pretty much all I ahve been able to find on it. |

I did one a while back. In the area of the armrest, i omitted the kerfing, and instead traced the inside outline onto a peice of solid mahogany. I then contoured the inside of the mahogany and glued it in where the kerfing would normally go. The upper x braces were shortened to fit and then I closed up the box. Next I cut the binding rabbet, then using a large 45 degree router bit I cut the armrest. next I installed the binding, and finished the guitar up to the first level sanding. Next I carefully masked the armrest and sprayed it with black lacquer, then poceeded with finishing the guitar. I'm sure others use different methods, but this is how I did it. Al |

Brock No, haven't read it yet but I will. Al, That is interesting. I was thinking alone those lines as one method. The other that occured to me was use a piece of the side wood, bend it and work it in. When you bind it you just follow the top outline? What about the side to bevel edge? Just a sanded joint? |

Yes black binding, and a sanded black lacquered armrest. some people get quite elaborate, but mine was just an experiment. Al |
